The Facts of Life

I have grown old reading, contributing and commenting on http://www.timegoesby.net/.  Time goes Bye is what the creator has called it all along.  She always contended that someone needed to inform others as to what it's really like to grow old. I have my own thoughts on the topic. BTW, her name is Ronni Bennett.   You should get to know her, regardless of your maturity. She has a way of helping others to see the truth.

The first thing I would point out is that I only recently purchased a new, ergonomically designed Keyboard that is manufactured by Microsoft. It is a desperate attempt to reacquire a fraction of my normal typing skills.  Maturity has stolen my manual dexterity and writing voice.  I need lots of help in my composition efforts.  I once was considered "gifted" at writing, typing faster than my mind could compose a sentence of linear thought.  I came to treasure that period of my life.  Writing is a large portion of my quality of life.  I am not willing to give it up as easily as I have so many other activities I loved participating in for most of my life.

I have gotten rid of most of my guns and other hunting gear.  Today I am forced to imagine what walking through high weeds and briar thickets is like.  The thrill of the hunt remains in my outdoorsman's heart. My soul yearns for the experiences of my youth.  I thank God every day for the lasting ability to remember.

Yes; I confess, I spend much of my time living in the past.  I don't make any long-range plans anymore. I purchase a state fishing license each year and sometimes I never use it.  My rods hang in the garage.  I can't recall when I last replaced the line on the reels. All my artificial baits have lost their luster.   I doubt they could fool today's bucket-mouthed Bass.

Here's the major indicator that there is something terribly wrong with Clarence.  I pay a young friend of our family, that has begun a struggling business in landscaping, to mow our yard.  It breaks my heart to see the diminishing quality of our Homestead's appearance. UGH!

Yesterday, I dressed warmly, rigged up a portable oxygen tank hung around my waist and managed to complete my badly needed, January thaw, poop patrol in our fenced-in back-yard.  The weather has been awful for over a month and that was the first chance I've gotten to do the deed.  Such is the price I'm willing to pay for the privilege of having a wonder-dog for a pet.  I can't imagine life without him now.  This writing will need to be continued in the near future.  My attention is understandably distracted due to my wife having a pacemaker implanted today. We are praying for a positive outcome.
